About the course

The 2391-52 Inspection and Testing Course is designed to enable practising or experienced Electricians to understand principles, practices and legislation for initial verification and periodic inspection of electrical installations with statutory and non-statutory regulations and requirements.

Both the E-Learning or, Classroom based courses provide the knowledge needed by Electrician’s to underpin the application of skills for the inspection, testing, commissioning, and certification of electrical installations.

The 2391 – Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations Course is an essential competency for all experienced working electricians.

Who should enrol?

Experienced Electricians and Domestic Installers who wish to improve and update their knowledge and application of inspection and testing.

Experienced Electricians looking to improve their career prospects who require proof of competency or certification in this important area of their work, and those working towards ‘Qualified Supervisor’ status, the new requirement for the Part P scheme should also consider this course.

If you aim to apply for ‘Approved Electrician’ grading with the JIB, you will need to achieve the 2391-52.

This course is usually delivered to experienced Electricians who already know how to inspect, test and complete relevant certification forms. It aims to build on existing knowledge and understanding rather than teach from scratch. You should be familiar with the use of the testing equipment prior to course start.

Note: This course is not suitable for non-qualified Electricians and/or those who do not have any experience in inspecting, testing and certificating electrical installations. All applicants will be required to prove they have existing knowledge and skill in using test equipment as part of the enrolment process

This face-to-face course is the great for those of you who best learn in a classroom environment. Exams are included in this 5 Day City & Guilds 2391-52 Inspection and Testing qualification.

ABOUT THE 2391-52 EXAMS

There are four (4) individual exams that you must undertake successfully to graduate with this qualification.

All assessments are graded Pass/Fail only. Should a candidate fail any task criteria (Task-A, B or C) only that one task(s) has to be retaken after a period of re-training.

Note: You must work safely and in accordance with all current health and safety guidelines. Failure to follow safe practices will result in the assessment being terminated by your assessor.

Candidates who successfully complete all aspects of the course will receive the

City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Inspection and Testing.

Frequently asked Questions

The following pre-requisites are designed to ensure you have the right level of experience, prior to undertaking the 5 Day Course. If you are undertaking the Online Course, it is expected that you have been practicing with your own equipment, prior to coming to the centre to undertake your exams.

Course Prerequisites

  • Experienced electrical workers with practical experience of inspection and testing of electrical installations prior to course entry

  • Understanding of 3-Phase 415V systems

  • Over the age of 18+ years

  • Hold and have a good understanding the IET Electrical Wiring Regulations, BS 7671-2018, is a requirement for course entry

If you are not sure if you meet the course eligibility, get in touch with us to discuss your circumstances.

As you’re a practicing electrician, you should have access to and be familiar on using your own test equipment, we highly recommend that you bring these with you. Make sure the meter(s) are calibrated and capable of carrying out 18th Edition tests.

Also, bring your own VDE/1000V rated Insulated Screwdriver Set containing, as a minimum, a Philips 2, a 4mm slotted, and a terminal driver.

GBCT can provide test equipment/hand tools should you be unable to provide. You are deeply encourage to use your own equipment and ensure you bring a calibration certificate with you to your exams.

Candidates will require:

  • Suitable safety footwear and safety glasses for practical training/assessments

  • Pen, paper and non-programmable scientific calculator (Mobile phones are not permitted)

  • Photo I.D. such as passport, driving licence or company ID card (you will not be allowed to sit the examination without this)

  • IET Wiring Regulations BS7671:2018 – latest edition with Amendment 1

  • Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing (Blue copy 18th Edition)

  • On-Site Guide BS7671:2018 Wiring Regulations (Blue copy 18th Edition)

YES. Once you have successfully completed the FINAL MOCK EXAM, using the online course system, you can call the centre and book in for your 2 Day Exam period. As spaces are limited, we will make every attempt to ensure you are allocated a start date that suits, however in the event this is not possible, we will work with you to arrange an alternate date.

To access the Free 1st Resit of Any Exam, you must complete a barrier test and be approved for the exam by the qualified trainer and assessor.

5 Day Course – You must have been present for the whole course of 5 days to be eligible for the free resit offer

Online Course – You must complete the final online exam and present this test to be approved for the exam by our qualified trainer and assessor. Your online practice exam result must be greater than 80%.
